A clinic charges you per session, forever. A home device charges you once.
That sounds like an obvious win for the device, and in some countries it is, dramatically. But the comparison only means something if you count the things people leave out: replacement cartridges, how many sessions you will realistically do, and the fact that a home session is not the same as a clinic session. All of that is below, with real prices.
What a clinic actually charges
Clinics recommend one to two full face HIFU sessions a year.
| Where you are | One full face session | Three years at 1 to 2 per year |
|---|---|---|
| Spain | 200 to 400 EUR | 600 to 2,400 EUR |
| United Kingdom | 450 to 900 GBP at established clinics | 1,350 to 5,400 GBP |
| United States | 1,200 to 2,000 USD for non branded HIFU, around 2,600 USD average for Ultherapy | 3,600 to 12,000 USD |
UK and US prices vary widely by city, and heavily discounted offers exist. Treat the lower end as a floor, not a typical price.
What a home device costs
One payment, no appointments.
| Spain | United States | United Kingdom | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dualsonic Maximum Alpha | 1,250 EUR | 1,495 USD | 1,095 GBP |
| Dualsonic Professional Set | 2,000 EUR | 2,392 USD | 1,752 GBP |
The break even point
This is the part that surprises people, because it is completely different depending on where you live.
| Where you are | Clinic sessions that cost the same as a Maximum Alpha |
|---|---|
| Spain | 3 to 6 sessions, so roughly 2 to 4 years of clinic maintenance |
| United Kingdom | 1 to 3 sessions, so roughly 1 to 2 years |
| United States | About one session |
In the United States, a single Ultherapy appointment can cost more than owning the device outright. In Spain, where clinic HIFU is cheapest in Europe, the device takes a few years to pay for itself.
Cost per session, over three years
Treating every two weeks is roughly 26 HIFU sessions a year, or 78 over three years. Spread the purchase across them:
| Where you are | Cost per HIFU session |
|---|---|
| Spain | about 16 EUR |
| United States | about 19 USD |
| United Kingdom | about 14 GBP |
Against 200 to 400 EUR, 450 to 900 GBP or 1,200 to 2,000 USD a visit. And that calculation counts HIFU sessions only. The daily and cosmetic absorption modes cost nothing extra to run. We work through the full arithmetic in home HIFU cost per month.
The catch nobody mentions: cartridges
This is where home device maths quietly falls apart, and it is worth being straight about it because it affects which of our own products you should buy.
The Professional Set uses replaceable cartridges. The face cartridge holds 6,000 shots and the eye cartridge 60,000. When a cartridge runs out, you replace it:
| Cartridge | Spain | United States | United Kingdom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Face | 620 EUR | 742 USD | 544 GBP |
| Eye | 490 EUR | 587 USD | 430 GBP |
| Body | 640 EUR | 766 USD | 561 GBP |
How long a cartridge lasts depends entirely on how much of your face you treat each time, so we cannot promise you a number of months. Budget for it.
The Maximum Alpha has no cartridges and no shot limit. Nothing to replace, ever. That is the main reason its lifetime cost is lower than the Set’s, despite the Set costing more up front, and it is why we would point most individual buyers at the Maximum Alpha unless you specifically want the Set’s separate face and eye heads.
The optional extra
Personalised Treatment Guides through the Protocol Hub are 119 EUR a year (143 USD, 105 GBP), or 14.99 EUR a month (18 USD, 14 GBP). They are optional and the device works fully without them. We mention them here only so the figures above are complete rather than flattering.
What the money does not buy you
A home device is not a clinic session at a lower price. Clinic machines deliver more energy per shot, which is a safety limit rather than a design flaw, so one clinical treatment does what several months of home sessions do. We covered that honestly in do at-home HIFU devices actually work.
So the real trade is not cheap versus expensive. It is a few strong treatments a year, supervised, against continuous gentle treatment you control, at a fixed cost.
When a clinic is still the right answer
Choose a clinic if you want one or two high energy treatments a year with professional assessment, if you have a skin condition that needs a clinician’s eye, or if you know you will not keep a routine. A device used twice and left in a drawer is the most expensive option on this page, whatever it cost.
Bottom line
In the United States, the device pays for itself after roughly one clinic visit. In the United Kingdom, after one to three. In Spain, after three to six, so it is a two to four year decision rather than an instant saving.
If you go the home route, pick a device with no consumables, and treat consistently for at least twelve weeks before judging it.
Frequently asked questions
How many clinic sessions does it take for a home HIFU device to pay for itself?
It depends on where you live. A Dualsonic Maximum Alpha costs about the same as one clinic session in the United States, one to three sessions in the United Kingdom, and three to six sessions in Spain, where clinic HIFU is cheapest in Europe. In Spain that means roughly two to four years of clinic maintenance.
Does the Maximum Alpha need replacement cartridges?
No. The Maximum Alpha has no cartridges and no shot limit, so there is nothing to replace. The Dualsonic Professional Set does use cartridges: the face cartridge holds 6,000 shots (620 EUR to replace) and the eye cartridge 60,000 shots (490 EUR). That is the main reason the Maximum Alpha has the lower lifetime cost.
Is one home HIFU session the same as one clinic session?
No. Clinic machines deliver more energy per shot, which is a safety limit rather than a design flaw, so one clinical treatment does what several months of home sessions do. The real choice is a few strong, supervised treatments a year against continuous gentle treatment you control, at a fixed cost.
Do I need a Protocol Hub subscription to use the device?
No. Personalised Treatment Guides through the Protocol Hub are optional and the device works fully without them. If you want them, they cost 119 EUR a year (143 USD, 105 GBP) or 14.99 EUR a month (18 USD, 14 GBP).
